My Wild and Wanderful Time at Wizarding Weekend
Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts, Teach Us Something Pleaseeeee... I don't know about you, but my childhood was filled with books. JK Rowling books, specifically. Hogwarts was my escape, a world that was created by someone else, but still somehow it was my own hideout. So when I found out about Wizarding Weekend at The Resort at Glade Springs, I knew I had to be there. Now obviously, the ENTIRE experience was, for lack of a better word, completely magical. I could tell you every single thing I loved about it, but we would need a Time Turner to make up for lost time because I could go on about it for weeks. So here is my top four!
“And it’s Johnson, Johnson with the Quaffle, what a player that girl is, I’ve been saying it for years but she still won’t go out with me —' 'JORDAN!' yelled Professor McGonagall. 'Just a fun fact, Professor, adds a bit of interest —” ― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
This was easily one of the best parts about being at Wizarding Weekend. Thanks to the WVU Quidditch team, everyone was able to learn how to block a Bludger like Fred and George, throw the Quaffle like Angelina, and catch the Snitch *almost* as well as Harry himself. Quidditch Practice made me feel even more at home in my own little Hogwarts after spending the day at Wizarding School before the feast. The only thing missing from US Quidditch is the actual ability to fly on your broomstick!
⚡ Order Family
“I’m half and half. Dad’s a muggle, Mam’s a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out.”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
My dad’s a Sapphire, mom’s a Gold, so I feel ya Seamus. Normally, I always sit with my family when we go to dinner, but choosing your order for Wizarding Weekend is serious business. I mean, the Wizard Cup is a huge deal, and I was not about to choose between Sapphire and Gold. So, like any reasonable first year would do, I chose Ruby. Now, the only issues with this were 1. I knew I wouldn’t be sitting with them at The Feast and 2. Someone would be going home with bragging rights for their Order winning the Wizard Cup (congrats, Mom..) It turned out that it didn’t matter that I didn’t sit with my family at The Feast, because I had a new family, my Order Family. I got to sit with Witches and Wizards like me (and this year, we’re coming for you Gold Order.)
⚡ Wild and WANDerful Wizard School
Since we stayed on the package, our Saturday afternoon was filled with all things magic. We found magical creatures in the forest, learned how to brew potions, and tried our hand at wand crafting. Not only did that make our experience even cooler, we also were earning points for our Order with everything we did. We even got to shop in the Books-A-Million souvenir shop AND get a Wizardcature made!
⚡ The Feast
I have never found Ronald Bilius Weasley more relatable in my life as I did at The Feast.
Kreacher's French Onion Soup, Molly's Meat Pie's, and desserts galore... oh, and I can't forget the Elixir Bar. The Grand Hall was absolutely breath taking and there were even floating candles! I even had the chance to channel my inner Hermione during the O.W.L. examination which truly tested my HP knowledge.
